First Date Looks

While a lot has changed in terms of style when I went out on my first date with my husband, first date looks have not changed too much when it comes to making that good first impression. This past weekend, Tor and I celebrated seven years of meeting/going on our first date (check out my post about our first date here), and naturally I caught myself reflecting back on that fateful night. Just before Tor arrived to pick me up and bring me to our dinner date, I remember questioning should I dress casual or dress up? Should I wear heels or flats? I can't speak for men, but I know as a woman we usually question our first date looks. Will I look too dressed up? Will I look too dressed down? Is this too much cleavage? Is this dress too tight? People tend to make their first impressions within the first 7 seconds, and I remember the last thing I wanted Tor to think when he saw me for the first time was, "Why is she so overdressed?" In the end, I stopped listening to all the questions running through my head and dressed for myself and not for him. I knew I wanted to be comfortable and the sushi restaurant he was taking me to wasn't fancy, so I put on a lovely blouse with jeans (I know, I know. I wore jeans and not a dress!). I ended up wearing flats because I wasn't sure how long the night was going to go, plus when I wasn't modeling, I was wearing flats as much as I could. Below I am sharing two versions of what I'd wear on a first date today if I was getting ready to meet Tor for the first time.

Lunchtime Date/Casual Date

I remember my top being tan and I wore the jeans I was most comfortable in. I think I wore black flats, and in hindsight I don't think I would pair a light top with black flats again (but I wasn't a style blogger then, yet!). I actually wore this outfit on a lunchtime date with Torrance last week, and I would have worn this look had we been meeting up for a casual meeting when we were first dating.

Dinner Date

Dresses can be paired with flats, wedges, or heels - it depends on how you are feeling! Whether you are grabbing a drink or heading out to dinner, this is definitely one of my favorite date looks and would be perfect for a first date. Blue is my power/confident color which is why I am sharing a lot of my favorite blue dresses for a first date, plus it's a color that looks great on everyone.
The most important advice I can give you on a first date would be to dress for yourself. Don't overthink it. At the end of the day, you're meeting someone who wants to get to know you so let that reflect in your style. What are some of your favorite first date looks? Okay, one, you should definitely wear jeans more often, you look great in them! (Not that I don’t absolutely love all your gorgeous dresses, of course 🙂 ) And the blue dress makes me think of Wonder Woman when I look at you, and I love it.

Also, definitely not being a creeper and stalking your page, I’m just overly warm and can’t sleep, so I’m still up and a bit bored…

    • The A List

Aww thanks. I have a love/hate relationship with jeans.

I absolutely adore that blue dress. It has the feeling of royalty about it but it’s not too overkill for a date. I definitely love a good dress for a date and some comfy shoes so I’m up for sightseeing adventures should the date go well.

Thank you! When I first saw it, I was reminded of my style icon Kate Middleton 😉
