Venetian Twilight

Sadly, all good things must come to an end. It wasn't just our final night in Venice but also our final night in Italy. After 2 incredible weeks in the country my father's family immigrated from (their roots are in Naples), it was almost time to say goodbye. But we chose to spend our final night in Italy in style.

We decided to leave early for dinner so we could walk around the city as the sun began to go down. Like Portofino, after 5 pm, most of the tourists in San Marco had disappeared and the alleyways, bridges, and canals became quiet. Venice is incredible when it's lively, but it's also incredible when it's peaceful. I'm a royal history buff and follow royal weddings (several provided the inspiration behind my own wedding two months ago), and to me the lavish, A-list wedding between George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin in Venice was essentially a royal wedding. So when it came for Tor and I to choose a restaurant for dinner for our last night in Italy, we chose George Clooney's favorite (and the location of his bachelor party) - Ristorante da Ivo. We indulged in smoked burrata, tuna tartar, and of course more truffle pasta (I really need to get my hands on some truffles here in LA). I HIGHLY recommend making a reservation several days in advance. Luckily, Tor and I called to make a reservation while we were in Madrid (a little over a week before we even arrived in Venice). Every table was reserved when we went and thus they couldn't accept any walk-ins. So make a reservation! Walking along the water at night proved to be a wise choice. Venice at dusk is remarkably beautiful. I don't think Tor and I spoke much on that walk! The views were so stunning that we spent so much time soaking it all in (and snapping away on our cameras!). I was bold and wore this polka dot dress from L.K. Bennett. I loved the vibrant pattern and, as you can tell from the photos, I could not stop twirling in it! However, we decided to splurge on a special trip to the Venice airport by booking a private water taxi. It's an expensive way to travel, and Tor isn't one to splurge on transportation, but taking this private water taxi from our hotel to the airport put a major smile on his face. It was the perfect way to leave Italy, with Venice behind us in the distance across the water.

    Wow ! Venetian Twilight !

    “One shade the more, one ray the less,
    Had half impaired the nameless grace
    Which waves in every raven tress,
    Or softly lightens o’er her face;
    Where thoughts serenely sweet express,
    How pure, how dear their dwelling-place…”
