The Best in Faux Fur

shop the post

As we move (slowly) into winter, it's time to share some of the best faux fur pieces for the upcoming season. For those who have been following my blog since the beginning, you'll know there are two things I do not wear: animal print and real fur. You'll never see me in cheetah or zebra or any other animal print because I don't think that kind of look suits me, but you'll never see me in real fur because I don't support it. Instead, I find the best of the best in faux fur for cooler weather, from accessories to boots to coats.

In 2013, I got together with a few of my fellow former Miss USAs - Shanna, Shandi, and Susie - and we posed for PETA's I'd Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur campaign. We were trying to send a message to state pageants for Miss USA to stop awarding winners with coats of real fur at their crownings. It was something I was already passionate about, as I do not wear anything with fur, pony hair, or calf hair. On my profile with my modeling agency at the time, I stated I would never pose in a campaign with alcohol, cigarettes, or real fur. But the PETA campaign worked because the following year, state pageants began awarding winners in faux fur coats instead. Even though it's all faux, it all keeps me warm (and still stylish, of course!). From hats to coats, I've noticed a lot of brands have been stepping up their faux fur game. For a while, faux fur looked really... faux. Nowadays, you can get the look of wearing fur without actually wearing fur. [gallery link="none" columns="2" size="full" ids="13899,13897"] [gallery link="none" columns="2" size="full" ids="13904,13902"] Earlier this year in Iceland, I shocked a few of my readers when I shared that the hood on this stylish parka was in fact faux fur and not real fur. I was so excited when I saw The North Face had a new parka with a faux fur trim hood and I immediately bought it for our Iceland trip. It's perfect here in North Iceland, where temperatures are a lot cooler as we are in the mountains and close to the Arctic Ocean. Another faux fur coat that's been perfect in the snow is this gorgeous green one, and I almost brought this navy one along but decided to save it for Finland in January (hint, hint!). There's also my faux shearling coat, which I wore earlier this year on our first trip to Iceland (see post here). This one and this one are both similar and at great prices.
More pieces in my suitcase are beanies with faux fur poms. Most brands these days tend to use real fox or rabbit fur for those cute pom poms, but I found similar ones that look equally stylish but are faux. I currently have this one, this one, and this one with me, as well as this one and this one. I also brought these adorable faux fur earmuffs along, too.   I will probably add a few more faux fur pieces to my winter wardrobe before our next winter travels, but for now these are my favorite key pieces that'll be perfect whether on the slopes or battling wintry winds in the city. I had a huge amount of respect for you Alyssa before but now I have even more respect that you stick to your principles and fight for animal rights. I love your writing and all your Instagram posts! Huge respect! I think you should take a look at The Body Shop, it’s a company that produces skin care and cosmetic products and fights against testing in animals. It produces amazing products without animal testing and I think you would like it.

Thank you, Ariana! I haven’t shopped at The Body Shop before, but I do shop at Lush which is also cruelty free. Tarte Cosmetics is also cruelty free.

I really loved how the Coat stands out and yet managed to blend with the rest of the clothes in a really stylish way. I was looking for other good looking fur jackets that have good quality and I stumbled upon Velufur which were amazing.
