Los Angeles. My old home.

From 2010-2019, I got to call Los Angeles “home.” Sometimes I am still in disbelief that I got to live in Los Angeles for nearly a decade of my life. Most of my adult years were spent in Los Angeles.

The fires over these past few days have broken my heart. California is sadly no stranger to wildfires, and I remember some pretty horrible wildfires during my time in Los Angeles where my patio was covered in ash and an apocalyptic dark cloud loomed over us. I spent a lot of time in the Pacific Palisades, from photo shoots to commercial shoots to even just visiting friends who lived there. Seeing images of it all gone has just been so heartbreaking and my heart goes out to those who have lost their homes, their schools, and their communities.

I cannot begin to imagine what it is like - for anyone in the world - to lose their home. To lose irreplaceable, precious memories inside. To lose everything you own except for what’s on your back/what you can carry. To lose your whole community. I’m so sorry to those who have lost everything, especially to a couple of my friends.

I praise the firefighters working tirelessly to save lives, save animals, even save memories from homes they cannot save all while exhausted, frustrated, and heartbroken. I praise the entire city of Los Angeles and beyond for coming together and providing for those who now have nothing. I praise those who are putting themselves at risk to save confused, injured animals who have also lost their homes. Seeing the countless videos of volunteers and the hundreds of thousands of donations makes me feel warm about the place I once called home.

I don’t have more words than this for now, but I’m sending everyone in Los Angeles a big hug.
