Postcards from Seville

Not long after returning home to California, I found myself back on a plane flying 8000 miles to Spain once again to meet up with my husband as he films his new tv show. There was one city in Spain we both had been dying to visit that we didn't get to on my last visit two months ago. This time we made sure to make a weekend out of it, so just a few days after landing in Spain, we hopped in our car and drove south to that certain city - Seville.

I have been anxious to visit Seville for years, probably even more so than Madrid (no offense Madrid, I still love you very much). I even told my husband he wasn't allowed to visit Seville without me since it was a destination I wanted us to experience together. Since he is a wonderful man, he obliged and waited. I think he would agree that the wait was worth it. So, I will come clean now and tell you that there are two reasons (technically three) why my husband and I were giddy about visiting Seville. The first reason is it would be my first encounter with the stunning Moorish architecture that very much so defines the city (Tor got his first hand experience in nearby Córdoba just before I joined him). Second, the Real Alcázar de Seville happens to be the filming location for Dorne in the Game of Thrones series (which we are obviously obsessed with if you know our cats' names); and thirdly, the Plaza de España was the filming location for Naboo in Star Wars which we are also huge fans of. So yes, our geekiness brought us to Seville played a huge part in us wanting to visit Seville in the first place, but we fell in love with it for so many other reasons, too. The attention to details in the tile work throughout the palace made me walk around with my jaw open. One thing I didn't know until we visited it was that it is still a residential palace and the oldest palace in Europe still in use. One tip I do have if you want to visit the Alcazar is buy tickets online. You'll bypass the super duper long line and get right in if you purchase ahead (and don't buy any from anyone selling them on the street). But there was still a slight chill in the air, so I pulled out this Kate Spade cape to wear as we toured the Plaza de España. The colors in the cape went perfectly with the colors of the plaza (and almost all of Seville). Also, be sure to take part in the rowboats around the Plaza de España. It may seem cheesy, but it's certainly a delightful experience. Plus, it's only 6 euros for 45 minutes. Seville also is not short of delicious restaurants, but since our town in Cáceres does not really have any Italian restaurants, we found ourselves dining at Osteria L'Oca Giuliva (AMAZING Italian food) and Maccheroni (also delicious!). But Seville is also full of incredible tapas bars. Tor and I found ourselves dining at this little spot called Gago 6 every day on our trip there. Such delicious wine and incredible tapas that would keep us full until dinner (I highly recommend the garlic shrimp and Tor highly recommends the guacamole). I cannot wait for my site's new redesign to launch, because there will be a whole page dedicated to Seville and all our our top spots, hidden gems, and insider tips.

We just spent a few days in Sevilla, such a beautiful city! And we actually went to Maccheroni for a great New Years Eve dinner – Thank you for the recommendation.
