Summertime Skin Care

Summertime skin care is more than just getting that perfect tan or having clear skin, it's also about protecting your skin from the sun. While wearing sunscreen is something that should be worn year-round, it's a skin care step that definitely shouldn't be skipped when the sun is at its strongest in the summer months.

Farmacy sunscreen, Supergoop sunscreen spray, Supergoop sunscreen mousse, St. Tropex faux tanning mousse (also available in dark for those with deeper skin color), St. Tropex faux tanning face mask, Cle De Peau SPF lip balm, Spell Byron Bay swimsuit (also available in bikini top and bottom; similar in pink here and in white here), J. Crew sunglasses

In Victoria last week, Tor and I went whale watching in the Salish Sea for 4.5 hours. Despite my foundation having SPF, I didn't properly apply sunscreen to my face underneath my foundation and now I am paying the price with a nose that resembles Rudolph's. The sun on the water is even stronger since the water reflects the sun's rays like a mirror, and I should have applied my favorite sunscreen beforehand. I underestimated the power of the sun! [gallery link="none" columns="2" size="full" ids="12612,12593"] [gallery link="none" columns="2" size="full" ids="12594,12600"] In Mexico, I relied heavily on my favorite sunscreen Farmacy Green Screen. It looks like it will turn your face ghostly white since it's rich in minerals, but it's the only sunscreen that blends in perfectly with my skin and literally is a sun block (I guarantee had I not been a doofus and applied this under my makeup before going out on the boat, I wouldn't have just peeled a layer of dead skin off of my nose). Just so you know, this post isn't an ad or sponsored at all. I genuinely love this sunscreen and since a lot of you have been asking me what my summertime skin care products are, I wanted to share my favorites. [gallery link="none" columns="2" size="full" ids="12607,12602"] [gallery link="none" columns="2" size="full" ids="12601,12592"] For my lips, my favorite lip balm with SPF is Cle De Peau's UV Protection Lip Treatment with 30 SPF. While my face has sunburn, my lips luckily do not. I have been swearing by this lip balm all summer since before our Mexico trip. It keeps my lips soft but also protects them from the sun. Trust me, sunburnt lips are certainly not fun. [gallery link="none" columns="2" size="full" ids="12611,12608"] [gallery link="none" columns="2" size="full" ids="12591,12596"] For my body, I have been loving Supergoop's products. Tor had been researching which sunscreen would be the best for our sensitive skin, and we came across Supergoop. We tried them out in Mexico and came back without even the tiniest burn. It felt like an actual shield on our skin, which is important for me since I do not go out in the sun often (I actually get hives on my body if I am out in the sun too long... maybe I am secretly a vampire?). We relied heavily on Supergoop's SPF 50 Antioxidant and Vitamin C infused sunscreen spray. When we wanted a bit more coverage, we switched to Supergoop's SPF 50 Antioxidant Mousse. [gallery link="none" columns="2" size="full" ids="12603,12598"] [gallery link="none" columns="2" size="full" ids="12604,12597"] My summertime skin care favorites wouldn't be complete without a little tip on how I achieved such a perfect tan while in Mexico. I haven't used faux tan products in YEARS. I think the last time I used it was in Miami in January 2015, so I relied on a favorite of my friends - St. Tropez faux tanning mousse. I think this was the most realistic faux tan ever applied to my body. When we returned from Mexico, all of my friends were jealous of the color I got. Little did they know, it was mostly the St. Tropez mousse. PS the best way to apply self tanner on your body is with a mitt. [gallery link="none" columns="2" size="full" ids="12599,12595"] I was a bit nervous to apply the tanning mousse on my face, so I tried their new (and extremely popular!) self tanning face mask. WOW. I loved this mask so much that I ended up buying six of them to last me all summer. The longer you leave the mask on, the deeper your tan gets. However, I think it's best to always do less with the face mask as I think my first one was a bit too dark for my light skin. After you take the mask off, you massage the jelly from the mask into your hairline, under your chin, and around the ears before washing your hands. After a few hours, your tan develops and it looks so natural. I will be using this again this summer for sure!
