My Favorite Met Gala Gowns

To some, last night was the celebration of Cinco de Mayo. For others, it was fashion's biggest night out (yes, bigger than the Oscars) - the annual Met Gala (also known as The Costume Institute Gala Benefit), which of course benefits the Met's Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (my favorite NYC museum) in New York City. Only the most elite and A-list can score an invite to such a black tie event (even during my reign as Miss USA I was not invited) while the rest of us stalk for pictures online or in the following week's magazine spreads. Since I am a huge lover of gowns (I would wear them all day every day if I could!), I can get pretty picky about who I think is best dresses for the event. When I think of a gala or a ball, I think of traditional ball gowns, but with a twist since it is 2014. Here are some of my favorite looks at last night's Met Gala: Thalia: This gown takes me back to the late 1800s. If Baz Luhrmann ever directs a western, I can picture something like this in that movie on our female heroine. I love the color - mint green is not a color we usually see on a red carpet. I think it compliments her skin tone and hair color quite well. And while I am not a big fan of peplums, I think this style suits her and makes this dress work. (Unsure who designed this gown) Met Gala 2014 Thalia Maggie Q: THIS is a ballgown! THIS is what you wear to a ball! Classy, elegant, yet statement making. The necklace adds a little sparkle but does not take away from the gown. Absolutely stunning. (Gown by Zac Posen) Met Gala 2014 Maggie Q Zac Posen Sarah Jessica Parker: Would you expect the woman who portrayed Carrie Bradshaw to arrive in anything but amazing? I love the contrast between white and black. The black corset really accentuates her waist before finishing in a popping white. While I am not a fan of her hairstyle, having her hair up really did bring an emphasis on her fabulous gown. And in case you had any idea who designed this masterpiece, look no further than SJP's train. (Gown by Oscar de la Renta) Met Gala 2014 Sarah Jessica Parker in Oscar de la Renta Taylor Swift: One of my doppelgängers. The pink really shows off Taylor's naturally feminine and girly side. The magnificent train adds a lot of drama but certainly doesn't overpower her. (Gown by Oscar de la Renta) Met Gala 2014 Taylor Swift Oscar de la Renta And my favorite look of the night goes to....... Ashley Olsen: While she has been on many editors' "Worst Dressed List" for this look (at least Rachel Zoe approved!), this happens to be my personal favorite look. Perhaps it's because I am incredibly into history, vintage pieces, and gowns, and when you merge them together you get this incredible look. This gown is so unique and so vintage, I gasped when I saw it pop up on my Twitter feed and I immediately posted the image to Facebook. And her hair back in a ponytail happens to work with this look. Everything about this happens to be my style. It's not revealing, it's not boring, it's not over the top. (I heard the gown is a vintage Chanel) Met Gala 2014 Ashley Olsen Chanel Tell me: which was your favorite look last night the Met Gala?

  3. Arturo

Probably Olivia Munn and Karolina Kurkova

  4. Lynne Plaisance

Also loved the Olsen twins gowns. Really nice to see Maggie Q is a full gown. She usually wears things that “shows off” her great figure. My fav gown of the night was Karolina Kurkova.

Yay! Someone finally shares my love of Ashley’s dress!! As soon as I saw it pop up on Instagram I was in love! I have gotten some weird looks when I say she had my favorite look of the night. It might be awhile before I stop thinking about this gown. 🙂
