Sleeping With Hans Christian Andersen

One reason that I was particularly excited to visit The Maidstone Hotel before I even arrived was the fact that the hotel is Scandinavian - from the food to the room themes. Each room is uniquely themed around a certain famous Swedish or Danish individual. The general managers of the hotel, Sophie Hindmarsh Bonér and her husband Pär Bonér, were extremely welcoming and accommodating. After I told them that I am Danish myself, they put me up in the Hans Christian Andersen room, a homage to my Danish ancestry. Hans Christian Andersen was a famous Danish author during the 19th century who wrote such wonderful stories that were eventually adapted into many Disney films, such as "Den lille havfrue" (The Little Mermaid), "Snedronningen" (The Snow Queen - which was recently adapted into the Disney film "Frozen"), and "Alice in Wonderland." There's a large match beside one of the rooms' three big windows, a tribute to Andersen's short story "Den Lille Pige med Svovlstikkerne" (The Little Match Girl). The room reminded me of my Morfar and Mormor's house with the colorful plates on the walls (their dining room walls are covered in them). I certainly felt at home here, and they didn't even have to try. Staying here was such a treat. Maidstone Hotel Jumpers & Jasmine The Maidstone Hotel.
