Danish Roots

T and I are back in Canada now for a little while since it's time for him to start filming the next season of his TV show. It was fun coming back to Canada as an engaged couple. Canada always felt somewhat like home, and while I never imagined I would ever marry a Canadian, I'm excited that in a way I get to adopt Canada into my family. [show_lookbook_widget id="224649"] Before we came back to Canada, and just after we moved in LA, T and I took a quick day trip to Solvang in Santa Barbara. Solvang is a Danish community about 45 minutes from downtown Santa Barbara. I had always wanted to visit Solvang, especially since half my blood is Danish (my grandfather immigrated from Denmark in the 1950s - he was born in Espergærde just south of Helsingør). I take a lot of pride in being Danish. Last year, I finally got to visit the motherland in the flesh. It was so moving to me walking the streets of Copenhagen knowing my grandfather had done the same a few decades earlier. I used to speak the Danish language when my Morfar was still alive, and although he passed fifteen years ago, I find the language is coming back to me quite easily. I did not ramble in Danish in Solvang, though! I was too much in awe of the fact that a little Danish community existed just two hours from my house! Of course I had to eat some Danish food and savored my meat and horseradish smorrebrød and potato salad, and I could not leave Solvang without stopping into a couple Danish bakeries in search of raspberry kringle (pronounced kring-luh) and cookies. Så lækkert! For the trip to Santa Barbara, I chose to wear this super comfortable dress by Cooper & Ella. Recently this month, Cooper & Ella partnered with Nordstrom and launched some of their pre-fall collection with Nordstrom! I have been a fan of Cooper & Ella for the last year. Their tops are so comfortable and fit so well. They're also a brand that's easy to dress up or dress down. I chose to wear this dress casually with my white wedge sandals, but switch those out to black pumps and a black clutch and I am ready for date night! What I also love about Cooper & Ella is that every item purchased provides one hot, nutritious meal to a child in need through the Hope Foundation School in Bangalore, India. Philanthropy through fashion is just another great way to give back to those in need. Be sure to check out the Cooper & Ella collection now available at Nordstrom! Elsker at du kan snakke dansk! Vildt godt gået, da det siges at være et vildt svært sprog at lære for udlændinge. Forstår du?
