The Story of How We Met

In honor of Valentine's Day, I've decided to do something I very rarely like to do and that's get personal. Throughout the past 5 years of T and I's relationship, we are constantly asked by many about how we met. We do like to share the story with friends and family since we didn't meet conventionally. And while sadly work has us in two separate countries this Valentine's Day, even though he did send me gorgeous roses to let me know he is thinking of me, I cannot help but reflect back on the past five years of the best love I have ever known and ever will know. It all started back in the spring of 2010. I was a working model living in New York City and T was a working actor back in Vancouver. There's no chance we should have ever met under normal circumstances, right? Right. Actually, this story goes back even further than 2010. It goes back to 2007, when I was scrolling through the tv guide one Sunday night and came across a show called The Tudors. Thinking it was a documentary and since we all know I LOVE history, I selected it and began to watch it. Although it most definitely was not a documentary, I still got incredibly hooked and looked forward to every season the next three years. 2010 was to be the fourth and final season, and T was cast in one of the lead roles for that season. First episode of season 4 airs, and T's face basically starts the whole season. I remember looking at him thinking, "Whoa. He's handsome!" He caught my attention right away (and no, it wasn't because of all his love scenes). I would tweet every Sunday night that I was about to settle in and watch The Tudors. I never tweeted at him - I didn't even follow him on Twitter - but he did a search for who was watching The Tudors and he saw my tweet pop up (yes, basically in a way he stalked me. But not in a creepy way!). One night, I randomly got a follow from him (ironically it was the night his character had a BIG downfall - I won't spill for those who have not watched but let's just say the evidence now sits on our living room shelf). Thinking it was a mistake, I checked to see if it was the real T following me on Twitter. It was. I was very confused! It took me two weeks to follow him back. Shortly after I returned the follow, I received a sweet message from him basically saying hello and that he was not a creeper. We then would tweet comments back and forth once in a while here and there for a couple of months. Shortly after our first "Twitter chat", I ended up moving west to California. I lived with my father in Northern California for a while to get some father-daughter time before I officially moved on my own to Los Angeles. By this time, T and I had been occasionally tweeting. One night, we started chatting a bit more via direct message and the next day he suggested the next time we were both in LA we should meet up. A few weeks later, we were both scheduled to be in LA. We arranged to meet on the first night I arrived. Guys, I cannot remember the last time I was that nervous. Competing at Miss Universe was a BREEZE compared to the nerves I felt before meeting T for the first time. The butterflies were in full force. I will never forget the first time I saw him and I will never forget how hot and red my cheeks felt as I smiled. Our first "date" was so good, we hung out until 2 in the morning at a cafe just chatting and sharing a sweet dessert. In fact, the first "date" was really so good that we saw each other every single day for the next 8 days that I was in LA. And the rest is history. Five years and two cats later, we are still the same silly and lovey couple we have been since the beginning. He was there when I won Miss California USA and Miss USA, and he and his family flew down to Brazil to watch me compete at Miss Universe. I have been there from the moment he got his first audition for Reign and two years later I am still his biggest cheerleader. I still get butterflies when I see him, whether it be when he comes home from set or I return home after a trip away. That dorky smile still makes me weak at the knees, and I would do anything, literally anything, just to hear his laugh. When I was a little girl I would dream about being in love with someone, as most little girls do, and this is exactly what I had envisioned only reality so far has exceeded those dreams. I am so happy I found someone who makes my heart feel full and pure. Happy Valentine's Day to my wonderful man, and Happy Valentine's Day to all the lovebirds out there.
