Concrete Jungle

As New York Fashion Week went on, I noticed it began to feel (and look like) I brought some of Toronto's weather with me to New York City. Suddenly temperatures were below zero and the wind chills were making it feel even more below zero, so much so that it physically began to hurt. Since I had expected New York to be slightly warmer than frigid Toronto, I did not exactly pack the proper layers I probably should have packed. But for the sake of fashion, I smiled through the cold and ran to the nearest Uber or Starbucks I could find for warmth. On my third day of New York Fashion Week, I was excited to see a designer I have been a fan of since my reign as Miss USA - Custo Barcelona. After I won Miss USA, PR was kind enough to set up a little shopping spree at the Custo Barcelona store in SoHo, and I have been attending the show at Fashion Week ever since. Custo Barcelona is known for eye popping colors and patterns and I was headed to Brazil for Miss Universe, I thought wearing some of their pieces in vibrant Brazil was a great idea. One of my favorite summer dresses by Custo Barcelona is a gorgeous one shoulder chiffon maxi dress with patterns incorporating purple, green, and orange. I'm wearing it in my collage on my About page! I reflected that style of eye popping colors and patterns into my look for that whole day, wearing an Eva Franco dress (another designer I wore frequently during my reign as Miss USA) that featured a bird pattern and sequin lace sleeves. Unfortunately, since the temperatures that day were a whopping 10 degrees F, there was no way I was removing my white Lafayette 148 NY coat. I even left the coat on during the show, and normally I NEVER do that. I will have to wear the dress again to properly showcase the gorgeous sleeves when I am no longer in a polar vortex! To complete my look for the day, my dearest friend and makeup artist of almost nine years Yuko Takahashi came over to glam me up. Normally I stick to classic, neutral makeup but she dared me to step outside the box and let her apply blue eyeliner on my lids. I was skeptical at first, but once I saw the final look I think she was right to dare me!
